Audio FAQ

Q) I’m not hearing any bass / My earphones sound tinny

Your Maroo earphones are designed and engineered to provide a full range of sound with accurate rich deep bass to crystal clear highs. If you are not hearing a full spectrum of sound, check for these causes:

  • Your eartips might not be the right size for your ears and are not properly fitted. A tight seal with the eartips in your ear provide a controlled and enclosed chamber, optimized to provide you the very best acoustics. This is true of all noise isolating earphones.
  • Try the different included eartips to find the ones that give you the best seal and therefore the best sound performance. Note, that each person’s ear is often slightly different in size and shape than the other. It’s not uncommon for people to use different eartips to get the best sound and fit for each ear.

Proper eartip size = complete seal = deep rich bass = full sound performance

  • Test listening to different songs or to music with different ranges of sound. Test with songs you know and have tried before. Note that not all music tracks are recorded the same, with some recordings being quieter, some louder, some with more bass punch than others, and some with less fidelity than others.

Q) Earphone falls out / Earphone doesn’t fit

If one or both earphones fall out during your listening experience it is likely you need a larger eartip size for either one or both ears. We encourage you to try all the eartip sizes to find the ones that fit best and provide the best sound performance. It’s not uncommon for people to use different eartips for each ear to get the best sound and fit.

Q) How do I remove and change the eartips?

To remove or change your eartips, pinch and gently twist the eartip while slowly peeling it off the earphone neck. Reverse the process to put a new eartip on, making sure the eartip is completely seated back over the neck of the earphone.

Q) How do I clean the eartips?

To clean the soft silicone eartips: remove them from the earphones, place in a glass cup/bowl with warm water, and stir with powdered dishwasher soap for best results. Other gentle soaps may work as well. Rinse thoroughly. Make sure the eartips are completely dry before placing back on the earphones.

Q) Will my earphones fit a man?

We never really know, as every person is unique. The eartips are optimized for smaller ears. If they fit with great sound performance – go for it!

Q) Are Maroo earphones “Noise Canceling”?

No. At present, we do not make what is termed “noise canceling” earphones – also referenced as “active” noise canceling technology. Instead your Maroo earphones are what is known as (passive) “noise isolating” earphones.

When properly fitted, noise isolating earphones are designed to significantly reduce external noises without any need for special electronics to compensate for outside noise getting in and competing with your music. Noise isolating earphones are the safest way to listen to music.

Q) Why Noise Isolating earphones?

The problem with many earphones that do not seal outside noise from coming in, is the competition it creates. If you are walking or running on busy urban street, it is not uncommon for typical traffic noise to average and exceed 85dB. Therefore, to be able to listen and understand your music, 13dB of volume above the average noise level is usually required. Music at that level (93dB) is only safe to listen to for one hour.

By wearing noise isolating earphones (depending on the earphone seal and fit), you can reduce outside noise by 20dB or more. Taking that same street noise of 85dB (as illustrated above), your earphones can reduced that outside sound to a very normal conversation level of just 65dB. Then when you add your music in with an additional 13dB for enjoyment, your max volume is a completely safe at 78dB. This is one of the many ways to “Practice Safe Listening.”

Noise isolating earphones are the very best way to enjoy your music.

Q) Are earphones legal to wear while driving?

In most states, no. However, in some states it may be okay to wear one earphone in one ear for hands-free communication. We recommend you check with your state to verify.

Noise isolation earphones reduce many external sounds, and when driving, can cause a distraction from the road and immediate environment. Always exercise safe and aware practices when operating any motorized vehicle or machinery, and when bicycling, jogging, or walking.

Q) Can I get replacement eartips, travel pouch, or ring box?

Q) My control button isn’t working.

The earphone’s button control only works with/supports newer smartphones and tablets that use a 4 barrel plug, and depends on the most current device operating system (OS) version. Home stereos, CD players and other devices don’t offer button control input. Check these tips below for more help:

  • Some older versions of tablets and smartphone operating systems (OS) do not support some or all of the functionality of button control inputs. Check with your device and OS version updates to confirm complete earphone, headset, or headphone control functionality.
  • Make sure the earphone cable plug is inserted all the way into your device. With some devices, the jack can be tight fitting and extra force is required to get the plug fully inserted for full contact with the jack.
  • If button function is intermittent:
    • Try restarting the device application
    • Try rebooting the device
    • Check to see if water has entered the audio jack area on the device. If so, unplug and let the device dry for 24–48 hours before trying again.
  • If button function is still intermittent: Contact us at maroo.com/support
