Facebook's new "Deals" program

Facebook has launched their new “Deals” feature to compete with Groupon. The Deals feature is currently limited to only five US cities - San Francisco, Austin, Dallas, Atlanta, and San Diego. Facebook revealed to The New York Times that the local offers made to Deals users will be delivered via email and will also appear in users’ news feeds on their Facebook page.
Facebook says its primary goal with Deals is to share popular experiences with your friends that are on Facebook. By jumping on a deal using Facebook, you can easily share it with your friends and discover new things together.
With Facebook’s already impressive penetration in people’s homes, Deals may become the de facto solution for one-stop deal shopping online. Now, it just needs to come to the Portland area, and I can try it out for myself.
